PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Pharmacodynamic Properties
Buparvaquone is a second generation hydroxynaphthoquinone derivative chemically derived from parvaquone.
The effect of buparvaquone in all Theileria species is to destroy the organism by inhibiting the biochemical stages of the respiratory mechanism of parasite. It accomplishes this by inhibiting electron transport in the respiratory chain, which is vital for the parasite.
Pharmacokinetics Properties
Buparvaquone has a longer plasma half-life due to the tertiary-butyl bond in its structure and is metabolized slowly due to the cyclohexyl ring at the 4-position. Maximum plasma concentration is reached within 3-3.5 hours following intramuscular injection. The half-life is 26.44 ± 2.81 hours after administration. Parvakuvil Solution for Injection is largely excreted in the feces after being degraded in the liver. recovering animals develop antibodies specific to the strain causing the disease.
AREA OF USE/INDICATIONS
It is used for the treatment of all forms of Theileriosis caused by Theileria annulata, T. parva, T. bovis, T. mutans, T. sergenti in cattle.
Buparvaquone shows specific efficiency to Theileria. Since Parvakuvil Solution for Injection is effective on both the flizont and red blood cell stages of these blood parasites, it can be administered during the incubation period of the disease and after clinical symptoms appear.
USAGE AND DOSAGE
It is administered only deep intramuscularly to neck area;
Pharmacological dose: 2,5 mg/kg body weight.
