COMPOSITION
It is a white-colored cream ointment containing 213 mg cloxacillin benzathine.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
It is a local and long-acting antibacterial. Due to the activity of cloxacillin benzathine against penicillinase, it is particularly effective against bacteria resistant to Penicillin G (penicillinase-producing Staphylococci). It exhibits bactericidal activity.
Susceptible bacteria include Staphylococcus spp. (including beta-lactamase-producing strains) and Bacillus spp.
After ocular administration, cloxacillin benzathine maintains a concentration above the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) in the lacrimal fluid for 2–3 days, providing effective levels in the eye. It is eliminated via tear fluid.
AREA OF USE/INDICATIONS
It is used for the treatment of ocular infections locally in horses, cattle, sheep, cats and dogs.
USAGE AND DOSAGE
Cattle and horses: 5–10 cm line is applied by opening the lower eyelid and squeezing it into the conjunctival sac for each eye.
Sheep: 5 cm strip for each eye.
Cats and dogs: 2 cm strip for each eye.
Normally, a single administration is sufficient. If necessary, treatment may be repeated within 48–72 hours.
To prevent cross-infection, it is recommended to also treat the non-infected eye. To minimize the risk of spreading infection, always begin treatment with the healthy eye.
For external use only.
ADVERSE EFFECTS
No adverse effects have been reported at the recommended doses. Allergic reactions may occur in animals sensitive to penicillins.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Do not use concomitantly with tetracyclines.
