SPECIAL CLINICAL INFORMATION AND SPECIAL WARNINGS FOR TARGET SPECIES
The infusion volume to be administered should be adjusted based on the animal's body weight, clinical condition, and laboratory tests. Avoid rapid administration. Use at body temperature.
ADVERSE EFFECTS
Following intravenous calcium administration, cardiac irregularities, bradycardia, heart block, nausea or vomiting, and reactions at the injection site may occur. However, with intramuscular and subcutaneous administration, such side effects are quite rare.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
The concomitant use of oral tetracyclines with calcium compounds reduces the absorption of tetracyclines. Additionally, they are incompatible with neuromuscular blockers, carbonates or bicarbonates, phosphates, sulfates, and tartrates. Concurrent administration with calcium and vitamin D analogs may cause hypercalcemia.
SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSE, PRECAUTIONS AND ANTIDOTE
Calcium salts are cardiac toxins. During intravenous administration, heart rate should be continuously monitored. If an increase in pulse rate is observed, administration should be discontinued. If calcium poisoning occurs, 300 ml of a 10% magnesium sulfate solution (for a cow of normal size) should be administered intravenously to prevent poisoning.
WITHDRAWAL PERIODS
‘0’ day for meat and milk.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
It should not be used in cases of hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria and heart failure.
